The Weight Loss Journey Nobody Sees

"I'm taking Wegovy... so why does the lifestyle side still feel so difficult?"

Medication can help reduce appetite.

But building a lifestyle that helps you lose weight and keep it off is a very different journey.

It's about the life you're trying to lose weight in.

One of the many tools I use to help clients understand why making healthy changes can feel much harder than people expect, has these concepts.

1. The Open Self – What You Already Know

These are the things you already know about yourself, and so do the people around you.

Perhaps you know:

  • You struggle to meal plan.

  • You often skip breakfast.

  • You're exhausted by the end of the day.

  • You comfort eat when you're stressed.

  • You know you should sleep earlier, but rarely do.

These aren't secrets.

They're simply the parts of your lifestyle you already recognise.

May be you've tried them all, but haven't seen the weight loss you desire and after discussions with your practitioner, have decided to start Wegovy.

2. The Blind Self – The Things You Can't See

This is where things become interesting.

These are the habits and patterns affecting your weight that you may not even realise are there.

Perhaps you believe you're "bad at planning."

But actually...

You're saying yes to everyone else's requests and leaving no time for yourself.

Perhaps you think you have no willpower.

But you're surviving on five hours of sleep, so your hunger hormones are working against you before the day even begins.

Perhaps you keep reaching for sugary snacks every afternoon.

Not because you lack discipline...

But because your blood sugar has been fluctuating all day after skipping meals and relying on coffee to keep going.

These are blind spots.

Once you can see them, you have choices.

These are the conversations with my clients that often create the biggest breakthroughs.

3. The Hidden Self – The Story Nobody Else Knows

Then there are the things you rarely tell anyone.

You feel guilty taking time for yourself.

You're worried people will think you've "taken the easy way out" by using Wegovy.

You've spent years putting everyone else's needs first.

You're caring for ageing parents.

Supporting children.

Working long hours.

Trying to hold everything together.

From the outside, people see someone coping.

Inside, you're exhausted.

When these conversations finally come into the open, they stop silently driving your behaviour.

Instead of carrying them alone, we work together to find realistic ways forward that fit your life.

4. The Unknown Self – The Person You Could Become

This is my favourite part.

Because this is where possibility lives.

You may not yet realise that you're capable of becoming someone who:

  • Plans meals without it feeling like a chore.

  • Protects time for sleep without guilt.

  • Says no when needed.

  • Travels frequently without losing all your healthy habits.

  • Eats well because it feels natural—not because you're forcing yourself.

  • Maintains your weight because your lifestyle supports it.

You don't become this person overnight.

You grow into them.

One conversation.

One habit.

One small change at a time.

What Might Your Journey Look Like?

You finish work exhausted.

You planned to cook but order a takeaway because you simply don't have the energy.

You promise yourself tomorrow will be different.

Then your child needs help with homework.

Your mum calls asking if you can pop round and help her with the garden. Her knees...

By the time you finally sit down, it's late.

You scroll your phone because it's the first moment that's felt like yours all day.

Suddenly it's midnight. Those rabbit holes/reels!

Tomorrow starts tired again.

The problem isn't motivation.

The problem is that your lifestyle is working against the changes you're trying to make.

How To Overcome The Challenges

Together we look beyond the scales.

We uncover what's really getting in the way.

For example, we might explore:

  • Your blind spots – the habits, beliefs or routines you haven't noticed.

  • Your strengths – the qualities you already have that can help you succeed.

  • Your routine – making healthy habits fit your real life, not an ideal one.

  • Your sleep – because poor sleep affects hunger, cravings, energy and weight.

  • Your 'why' – creating a reason that's bigger than simply losing weight.

Sometimes one conversation changes everything.

A client may discover she's not "bad at planning"—she's simply overcommitted.

Another realises she isn't lazy—she's exhausted.

Another stops chasing perfection and starts making progress. A week without takeaway.

You Have More Potential Than You Think

One question I often ask clients is:

"If you had the energy, health and confidence you wanted... what would your life look like?"

The answer is rarely, "I'd weigh less."

It's usually...

"I'd travel."

"I'd go for salsa classes."

"I'd stop hiding from photos."

"I'd enjoy life again."

That's the journey we're really working towards.

It's Never Just About the Medication

Wegovy may help reduce your appetite.

But your lifestyle determines what happens next.

Sleep.

Stress.

Beliefs.

Confidence.

Relationships.

Work.

Planning.

Purpose.

Fulfillment.

These are often the hidden pieces of the puzzle.

Sometimes the biggest transformation isn't losing weight.

It's discovering a version of yourself you didn't know existed.

This is just one part of a much bigger conversation.

In my latest newsletter, I explored how sleep, behaviour change, lifestyle habits and realistic strategies can help people taking Wegovy build habits that last long after the medication.
